Homemade Cadbury Creme Eggs

This is my all time favorite Easter candy. I was super excited when I found the recipe to re-create them. It's a little time consuming, but well worth it.

Happy Easter!

1/2 c. light corn syrup
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
3 c. powdered sugar
4 drops yellow food coloring
1-2 drops red food coloring
2 (12 oz.) bag milk chocolate chips
2 Tbsp vegetable shortening

Combine corn syrup, butter, vanilla, & salt. Beat until smooth. Add powdered sugar 1 cup at a time & mix until creamy. Remove 1/3 of the mixture & add food coloring. Cover and refrigerate both parts for 2 hours or until firm.

Roll the orange into small marble sized balls. Take about twice the amount of white & wrap it around the orange, make it sort of oval, or egg-shaped.

Place onto a greased cookie sheet. Refrigerate again for 3-4 hours.

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave with the 2 Tb of shortening. Use a fork or toothpick to dip each ball into the melted chocolate. Place on wax paper & chill. after chilled, dip again.

The filling is a little more firm than the original, but still quite delicious!

Makes about 2 dozen.
